Mochas and Javas is a family-owned coffee shop chain with cafe and bakery offerings. With more than two decades in the restaurant industry, owner-operator Kevin Carswell and his family wanted to share their love of expertly-brewed coffees and teas with the city of San Marcos, Texas.

While he wanted to distance himself from traditional restaurant management, Kevin understood the value of both high-quality ingredients and warm, welcoming customer service. The booming coffee industry of 2002, plus Kevin's skill for delivering exceptional dining experiences led to the creation of the first Mochas and Javas location in February of 2003.

After years of success and fan support in San Marcos, Mochas and Javas took a short trip up north with an expansion to Frisco in the fall of 2017.

As of 2019, the Mochas and Javas empire has expanded to five locations across Texas, including Café M&J, a coffee shop/cafe hybrid in San Marcos. Kevin explains that the biggest key to M&J's success is the heart behind the brand.

We're a Christian-based business with a passion for connecting with people. We work to achieve legendary customer service and make our guests feel at home when they come into our stores. We even have a number of sixteen-year residents at our San Marcos shops.

Espresso, Cold Brew, Drip Coffee, and More!

As the name suggests, Mochas and Javas keeps the coffee beans at the heart of their business model. Kevin shied away from discount generic brands or bulk coffee suppliers from out of state.

Instead, he partnered with RC Beall of Texas Coffee Traders to create the totally unique, highly craveable espresso blend that M&J's has been serving for over fifteen years. The Mochas and Javas blend and light roast-of-the-month are roasted weekly in Austin at Texas Coffee Traders.

Kevin's dedication to superior coffee goes beyond the storefront throughout the Frisco community. Mochas and Javas partners with other businesses to serve signature M&J's coffee at places like local favorite kid-friendly hangout, Jungle Joe's.

Rather than simply send over the coffee beans, Kevin and his daughter actually visited Jungle Joe's in person and spent an afternoon conducting hands-on staff training to ensure mutual success and customer satisfaction for both brands.

Along with exceptional coffee and tea beverages, Mochas and Javas is sure to please with house-made snacks and lunches, all of which are created from scratch with locally-sourced ingredients. All of their recipes avoid msg and other preservatives, and salad dressings,  jams, and spreads are all made in-house as well.

The M&J's team is always working towards new ideas and improvements to ensure high-quality products during every single visit. In fact, stay on the lookout for their brand new Heavenly Latte—coming to stores in mid-July! 

Finding Fans and Giving Back in Frisco

Kevin is very active in the business and truly enjoys customer interactions. He explains that his top priority is to serve exceptional products in a family-based workplace.

Kevin loves that people visit Mochas and Javas not only to enjoy their coffee and bakery offerings but also to gather with one another and create a strong sense of community.

Outside of the storefront, the Mochas and Javas team collaborates with FISD and attends Frisco Chamber events. Kevin has worked with local schools, bands, apartments and more to donate coffee and contribute to an array of local fundraisers in Frisco and San Marcos alike.

Over the past two years, Kevin's generous attitude and heart for service have helped Mochas and Javas gain a great following in Frisco. The coffee shop is drawing in new fans and finding loyal customers that look forward to great quality and customer service.
