Player2Player, a Lake Travis start-up, expands to Frisco

High School Athletes stepping up to coach the next generation

In 2018, a Lake Travis-area business owner noticed the overwhelm high school student-athletes experience due to the demands of their academic and athletic commitments. As a result it is difficult for many of them to maintain regular employment.

So Jennifer Wright launched Player2Player to connect those job-seeking teenage student-athletes with skill-seeking younger athletes.

Fast forward to 2022 and more than 60 high school athletes in Frisco work for Player2Player teaching sports to the cities next generation of athletes.

Player2Player services include private 1-hour lessons, small group lessons, and group events. Coaching includes fun sports, cheer, dance camps, and skills clinics for advanced players. Player2Player coaching is ideal for kids from Kindergarten to 9th grade.

During a Player2Player private lesson you can see confidence in the eyes of the coach mixed with the adoration in the eyes of their student. And who better to help kids learn sports than the older kids who already play them?

Player2Player Frisco coach, Tyler Stout, is a student athlete at Wakeland High School and loves passing down the passion and being a positive mentor. “The best part as a P2P coach has to be seeing the kids laughing and having fun during their lessons knowing that I get to help grow their love for the sport!,” Coach Tyler says.

Benefits for Both

Player2Player is a simple concept with many benefits. Its core idea is to provide parents with a network of elite, high school-aged private instructors at an affordable price, in a convenient location without sacrificing quality instruction.

And the younger athletes aren’t the only ones improving their skills. Working one-on-one with a student is a proven means for advancing sports skills and helping the coach develop strong leadership, organization, and communication skills. Plus they get to have a flexible job with market-competitive hourly pay.

P2P Founder Jennifer Wright says it’s important to help instill leadership skills in these high schoolers. “I want teenagers to be out in the world interacting with adults, shaking hands, looking at adults in the eyes, not stuck on a couch or behind a screen.

These teens are AMAZING! They have so much to offer the younger kids and don't always realize their impact on them. I want them to understand the benefits of being a leader not only with younger kids but amongst their peers as well,” said Wright.

Passing Down the Passion

Player2Player Coaches are passionate about their sports and love having the opportunity to teach younger athletes. Beyond the court or field, the high school students are gaining real-world job experience that is second to none.

Player2Player coach, Katie Clabo, talks about finishing her sports career at Reedy High School and passing that down to younger kids.

”I love being a Player2Player coach because it allows me to stay involved with the sport I’ve dedicated my entire world to for the past 15 years of my life.

I decided to go a different path in college and not play at the collegiate level. But being a part of Player2Player gives me the opportunity to pass on my knowledge and help younger kids improve their game and talk to them about life as well.

Each kid I’ve had the honor to coach is so full of life and eagerness to get better that it makes me want to push them to be the best they can each and every session,” Coach Katie says.
